Movie of the Week: Public Enemies

July 31, 2009

Good not great.

All the acting performances were great especially Johnny Depp but it was too long and dragged in parts.  It could have easily been trimmed 15-20 minutes.

However, the shootout at Little Bohemia was awesome in typical Michael Mann fashion.

Movie of the Week: (500) Days of Summer

July 28, 2009

It was cute.  Any movie where I have half of the soundtrack on my iPod will always score extra points.

I think you can legitimately judge a person based on how they feel about Summer. There is definitely a time in my life where I would have vilified her but, luckily, that time has passed.

Also, I forgive Zooey Deschanel for The Happening and hopefully, I can forgive Joseph Gordon-Levitt in advance for Cobra Commander.

This is a feature from this month’s Wired magazine. Some of it is pretty common sense but these were my favorites:

Melanism on Shuffle, Part I

July 22, 2009

“Without a soundtrack, human interaction is meaningless.”
— Chuck Klosterman

The rules are simple. I’m going to put my iPod on shuffle and write about the first 10 songs that play.  Some of these will be really stupid or have nothing to do with the song but hey, who doesn’t like to hear me go off on a tangent. Read the rest of this entry ?

Daniel Radcliffe is a Good Sport

July 21, 2009

Sanma Akashiya’s “Karakuri Terebi” held a contest last month in which 10,000 of Japan’s biggest Harry Potter fans competed for a chance to travel to the UK and interview the stars of the new Harry Potter movie. As it is a comedy show, they intentionally picked the strangest fans as finalists. A girl named Kana was the grand prize winner, and here are partially subtitled clips of her meeting Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). Source: Japan Probe

Movie of the Week: Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince

July 21, 2009

Good movie, questionable adaptation.

I enjoyed the movie for the most part. It’s weird seeing these kids/adults grow up physically and as actors.  I remembered not liking Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) in the earlier Potter films but he really outdid himself this film.

The only disappointments I had with the film were I wanted more Alan Rickman (Severus Snape).  Since he doesn’t have many big scenes in the final book, I was kinda bummed that some of his parts from the book were cut (like his interrogation of Harry after he uses the spell on Draco).  Also, I don’t think the final confrontation was paced very well.  I don’t want to get into too many details for fear of spoilers but the big death in this film felt less significant than the deaths from the last two films.

I can’t wait to see how they do Deathly Hollows.
