Lost Season Six: “LA X” (Parts 1 and 2)
February 3, 2010
What I Liked:
- Did anyone ever see Sliding Doors? It’s the first thing I thought about when it was clear that this alternate timelines story telling device was going to be the direction this season.
- I like that the alternate universe isn’t simply “What if the plane hadn’t crashed?” but is operating on a larger scale of “What if they detonated that hydrogen bomb?” showing their plan was short-sighted even to being with. (At least, I think it is.)
- We finally have our villain, NotLocke a.k.a. The Man in Black a.k.a. SMOKEY (I knew it!), A recurring theme in this show is “who are the good guys” here. We still don’t know what’s really going on with The Others but now we know who, above all, is the Big Bad
- It was great seeing all those old faces on Oceanic 815: Boone! Arnzt! Frogurt! Charlie! Captain Norris!
- The island in under water in the alternate timeline (with a Dharma shark swimming around)!
- Terry O’ Quinn as Smokey might have his second Emmy all locked up if he’s going to be acting like this all season.
- Hurley taking charge after Jack’s “failed” mission has taken whatever leadership away from him
- The Temple! Finally!
- Cindy, Zack and Emma from the Taillies are back!
- Sawyer looking like he’s already planning a con on Hurley
What I Didn’t Like:
- While I will always prefer seeing Elizabeth Mitchell to not seeing her, I don’t know if we needed another tearful goodbye between Sawyer and Juliet. It takes away the impact of the powerful scene in the season five finale.
- It was annoying that after hearing Juliet’s voice under the hatch, everyone forgot that Sayid was bleeding out.
- It sucked to see certain things back to normal in the alternate timeline, namely Jin being a dick again and Charlie being a junkie
- While I’m glad we’re finally at Temple and as much as I love John Hawkes (credited as “Lennon”), do we really need MORE characters to try to sort through?
- I have no idea what’s going on. I rarely put a theory on record but here’s my first thought: Jack is sorta like Desmond living in this alternate parallel universe and, at some point, he (or all of them) is going to have to choose for everyone which reality. (This post-episode interview with Cuse and Lindelof may have confused me more)
Lines of the Night:
- “This thing goes down, I’m sticking with you.” 2004 Boone to 2004 Locke on the plane
- “If she dies, I’ll kill him.” Sawyer to Kate about Jack
- “I died an hour ago”
“Dude! That sucks!” – Jacob and Hurley - “I’m sorry you had to see me like that.” – notLocke to Ben after turning into Smokey
- “We should get coffee sometime…we can go dutch.” – a dying Juliet
- “James. Kiss me.”
“You got it, Blondie.” – Juliet and Sawyer - “You should have let that happen. I was supposed to die.” – 2004 Charlie to 2004 Jack
- “It worked” – Juliet’s posthumous words to Sawyer via Miles
- “The paper says is your friend there dies, we’re all in a lot of trouble” – Lennon to Hurley about the note inside the ankh that was in the guitar case Jacob gave to Hurley
- “I don’t like the way English tastes on my tongue” – The mysterious temple leader
- “You’re the monster.”
“Let’s not resort to name-calling” – Ben and notLocke - “Do you want to know what he was thinking when you wrapped the cord around his neck? ‘I don’t understand.’ Isn’t that just the saddest thing you ever heard? He was a victim. Weak, pathetic and irreparably broken. But he was the only one of them who didn’t want to leave. He was the only one who realized how pitiful the life he left behind was. I want the one thing that John Locke didn’t. I want to go home.” – notLocke to Ben about John Locke
- “Nothing is irreversible” – 2004 Jack to 2004 Locke regarding his spinal injuries

My 100 Favorite Moments on Lost…So Far
January 5, 2010
Well, in less than month, it’s the beginning of the end for us Losties. No more theories. No more speculation. Either our questions will be answered or we’ll be forever disappointed.
Actually, no matter what happens, I’ll be happy and thankful that Lost existed (unless the screen goes black like The Sopranos). As is clear from my many posts and lists, I’ve always enjoyed television but Lost made me love television in a way no other show has. After Lost, I found it hard to watch procedural, one-and-done shows like CSI. I needed every episode to matter. I wanted to be rewarded for my patience, loyalty and vigilance. I took more notes on Lost than I did for any class in college (which explains a lot about my station in life).
That said, I’m kinda glad Lost is over. I don’t know how much longer I could be obsessed with a TV show. After it’s over, I’ll feel like I’m getting a part of my life (and brain) back.
So in honor of the final season, here is a list of my favorite 100 moments on Lost so far. I tried to find a picture for each one (via Lost Media and Lostpedia). Obviously, spoilers galore.
- The opening chaos of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 (“Pilot”)
- The first time they hear the monster in the trees (“Pilot”)
- The monster snags the pilot out of the plane (“Pilot”)
- Kate hiding in the trees counting to five (recalling Jack’s surgery story) to steel herself to go look for Jack (“Pilot”)
- Seeing the pilot’s bloody body in the trees (“Pilot”)
- After Shannon and Sayid translate Danielle’s 16-year-old message, Charlie asks “Guys…where are we?” (“Pilot”)
- When everyone is arguing about how to get food on the island, Locke throws a knife five inches or so away from Sawyer’s head and says, “We hunt” (“Walkabout”)
- In his flashback, when Locke rolls away from counter revealing his paraplegia and yells “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” (“Walkabout”)
- In Jin and Sun’s flashback, at the airport when Sun, preparing to leave Jin once and for all, looks at Jin while he’s waiting in line and he pulls out a white flower like the one he gave to her when he promised he’d give her a diamond one day (“House of the Rising Sun”)
- When Ethan corners Charlie and Claire in the woods right as Hurley is telling Jack, Kate and Sayid that he wasn’t on the manifest (“Raised By Another”)

Don’t Call Me During…: Midseason 2010 Edition
January 1, 2010This is going to be a mess. With a bunch of shows doing delayed returns (not coming back until March/April), it’s hard to discern what I’m going to be able to watch live and what I’ll be watching via the internet. So I’m just going to list them all with their return date. Just know that some how, some way I will try to watch all these shows.
Sunday:
8:00 – 8:30 PM: The Simpsons (1/3): What will it take for me to stop watching this show.
8:00 – 9:00 PM: The Pacific (3/14): I own Band of Brothers and still haven’t watched it. That’s a damn shame
9:00 – 9:30 PM: Family Guy (1/3)
9:30 – 10:00 PM: Sons of Tuscon (3/14): The only reason I’m giving this a chance is because it stars Tyler Labine, the main reason I watched Reaper
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Big Love (1/10)
10:00-11:00 PM: Breaking Bad (3/21)
Monday:
8:00 – 8:30 PM: How I Met Your Mother (1/11)
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Life Unexpected (1/11): It’s supposed to be good
8:00 – 9:00 PM: House (1/11)
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Chuck (1/10 premiere, regularly airs on Monday)
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Gossip Girl (3/8)
9:00 – 10:00 PM: 24 (1/17 premiere, regularly airs on Monday)
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Parenthood (3/1): It sucks that Maura Tierney had to drop out but Lauren Graham as a replacement is great
9:30 – 10:00 PM: The Big Bang Theory (1/11)
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Castle (1/11)
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Damages (1/25)
