Oscar Contender of the Day: True Grit

Another great movie from the Coen Brothers who can do no wrong…as long as you pretend that The Ladykillers never happened.

The script was great and so were the performances. Jeff Bridges, when I could understand what he was saying, was award worthy again as Rooster Cogburn. Although I had low expectations for him, Matt Damon got better as his character got more serious. However, they both were upstaged by Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross. Between her and Jennifer Lawrence in Winter’s Bone, 2010 was a great year for young female actors.

Seriously, I wish Jeff Bridges was subtitled or that I read the screenplay in advance.

Nominations I’d Like To See: Best Picture, Best Director for The Coen Brothers, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor for Jeff Bridges, Best Actress for Hailee Steinfeld
