Movie of the Week: Fantastic Mr. Fox

The best way I can describe this movie is The Royal Tenenbaums done via stop-motion animation (closer to Davey and Goliath* than The Nightmare Before Christmas). Basically, if you are a fan of Wes Anderson’s style – snappy dialogue, quirky setting, little details that make you smile, soundtrack with some classics and obscure songs – then there is no reason you shouldn’t love this.
The voice work was great especially (to my surprise) Jason Schwartzman. I never read Roald Dahl’s book so I can’t compare the movie to it but usually I think that’s for the best.
The only problem I had with the movie was the scale of the animals in relation to their surroundings. Sometimes the animals were so small in relation to everything, it was like watching The Littles*. Also, a rat shouldn’t be taller than a fox. It kept taking me out of the movie no mater how hard I tried to ignore it.
