Don’t Call Me During…: Fall 2010 Edition

This is going to be a strange TV season for me.  No Lost for me to analyze.  No 24 or Jack Bauer for me to cheer.  Not even a Heroes for me to mock from afar.  There are few shows I truly love now so feel free to call me during these shows.  I may actually pick up.

Usually, I break this down in terms of what I’ll be watching live and DVRing then making a separate list for what I’ll be watching via other means (OnDemand, Hulu, other unsavory means).  For your benefit, I’ll list everything I plan to watch by their airdate and time.  Just know that, somehow, I’ll be watching all these shows at least once.

New shows in blue.

Sunday:
8:00 – 8:30 PM: The Simpsons (FOX) – 9/26
9:00 – 9:30 PM: Family Guy (FOX) – 9/26
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Boardwalk Empire (HBO) – This is one of two shows I am anticipating.  How can this fail?  Martin Scorsese. Terence Winter. Steve Buscemi. It even has Micheal K. “Omar’ Williams! I am amped. 9/19
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Dexter (SHO) – I can’t wait to see how they deal with the game-changing season finale. 9/26
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Mad Men (AMC)
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Luther (BBCA) – It stars Idris Elba which means I’m watching it.  I’ll watch ANYTHING that employs actors from The Wire. Seriously.  I watch 90210 for Christ’s sake! 10/17
10:00 – 11:00 PM: The Walking Dead (AMC) – This is the other new show I’m really anticipating. I hope it’s successful so more indie comic books get turned into television shows as opposed to cramming entire series into one movie (see: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World). 10/31
10:00 – 10:30 PM: Bored To Death (HBO) – 9/26
10:30 – 11:00 PM: Eastbound & Down (HBO) – 9/26
11:00 – 11:30 PM: The Venture Bros (CN) – 9/12

Monday:

8:00 – 8:30 PM: How I Met Your Mother (CBS) – Last season was easily the worst so far but the producers have been saying all the right things to give me hope that this season will be back on track. 9/20
8:00 – 9:00 PM: 90210 (CW) – See my comments about Luther and actors from The Wire. 9/13
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Chuck (NBC) – Please watch Chuck so I don’t have to spend the entire season worrying about cancellation. 9/20
8:00 – 9:00 PM: House (FOX) – I only watch this show off and on and when I miss episodes, I don’t feel like I’ve missed anything major. 9/20
9:00 – 9:30 PM: Mike & Molly (CBS) – I’m iffy on this show but I’m a huge fan of Melissa McCarthy (Gilmore Girls, Samantha Who?). Enough of a fan to give this a shot. 9/20
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Gossip Girl (CW) – Taylor Momsen (Raccoon-eyed Jenny) will barely be on the show this season. Now, let’s kill off Serena and the show will be great. 9/13
9:00 – 10:00 PM: The Event (NBC) – The annual show that carries the description, “It’s like Lost but…” You know what?  No one ever says “It’s like Lost but better.” 9/23
9:00 – 10:00 PM: In Treatment (HBO) – I still need to catch up on season two. 10/25
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Lone Star (FOX) – I wasn’t going to check this out but all the reviews have been stellar
10:00 – 10:30 PM: Weeds (SHO) – I’m hoping Shane snaps and kills everyone but Andy and they go on the run together to end the series.
10:00-10:30 PM: The In-Betweeners (BBC) – I can’t watch it on BBC America with all the editing
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Castle (ABC) – 9/20
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) – I hate remakes but with Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) and Grace Park (Battlestar Galatactica), I’ll give it a shot. 9/20

Tuesday:
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Glee (FOX) – Hopefully, season two is more like the first half of season one and not the cash-grab the second half ended up being. 9/21
8:00 – 9:00 PM: No Ordinary Family (ABC) – This doesn’t look too great but it stars the great Michael Chiklis (The Shield) and the guy-I-wish-was-still-on-Weeds Romany Malco  so it can’t be horrible. 9/28
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Life Unexpected (CW) – 9/14
9:00 – 10:00 PM: In Treatment (HBO) – I still need to catch up on season two. 10/25
9:30 – 10:00 PM: Running Wilde (NBC) – You had me at “From the creators of Arrested Development” but Will Arnett and Keri Russell are a bonus. 9/21
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Parenthood (NBC)  – 9/21
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Sons of Anarchy (FX) – It’s a crime that this show (especially Katey Sagal) didn’t get a SINGLE Emmy nomination.  This was easily one of the top five dramas last season. 9/7

Wednesday:
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Undercovers (NBC) – While I don’t think Boris Kodjoe could act his way into a McDonald’s Snack Wrap commercial, I find Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Doctor Who) um..intriguing. 9/22
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Lie to Me (FOX) – I started watching this over the summer. It’s disposable entertainment. TBD November
9:00 – 9:30 PM: Modern Family (ABC) – 9/22
9:30 – 10:00 PM: Cougar Town (ABC) – Don’t sleep on this show because of it’s unfortunate title.  They dropped the premise about five episodes in and it turned into a great ensemble comedy. 9/22
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Psych (USA) 11/10
10:00 – 10:30 PM: South Park (COM) TBD
10:00 – 11:00 PM: Terriers (FX) – It’s executive produced and created by Shawn Ryan (The Sheild) and stars Donal Logue (who I will always support because of The Tao of Steve). Either of those would have been enough on their own. 9/8

Thursday:
8:00 – 8:30 PM: The Big Bang Theory (CBS) – Why did they move this to Thursdays at 8 PM?! Isn’t Thursdays crowded enough? Are they trying to kill Community once and for all?  9/23
8:00 – 8:30 PM: Community (NBC) – It will probably die a slow death up against The Big Bang Theory. At least it gave us “Modern Warfare” (S. 1, EP.23). 9/23
8:30 – 9:00 PM: 30 Rock (NBC) – Last season was pretty bad. 9/23
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Bones (FOX) – 9/23
9:00 – 9:30 PM: The Office (NBC) – The final year for Michael Scott.  Who will replace him? My vote? Kelly Kapoor. 9/23
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Fringe (FOX) – Fringe had one of the best season finales last season and I can’t wait to see how the back and forth Earth One/Earth Two format works. 9/23
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Nikita (CW) – I’ll probably watch this once or twice.  It starts Maggie Q which is worth two hours of my time at least. 9/9
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Burn Notice (USA) – I’m starting to agree Saturday Night Live.  What is the point of this show now? 11/11
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) – The season finale was good enough for me to give it another probationary spot on the schedule.  9/23
10:00 -10:30 PM: It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FX) – I can’t wait to see who is the father of Sweet Dee’s baby. Please let it be Charlie. 9/16
10:30 – 11:00 PM: The League (FX) – A very underrated comedy.  If you play fantasy sports, you should definitely give it a chance. 9/16
10:00 – 11:00 PM: The Mentalist (CBS) 9/23

Friday:
8:00 – 9:00 PM: Human Target (FOX) – I was happy it was renewed but I didn’t now it was being spent to the FOX graveyard known as Friday nights (last year’s victim: Dollhouse). It was fun while it lasted. 9/24
9:00 – 10:00 PM: Supernatural (CW) – I’ve always wanted to watch this show but it was on Thursday which is way too crowded. Now that’s it on Friday, I’ll try and keep up with it. 9/24
10:00 – 11:00 PM:  The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret (IFC) – It stars David Cross and Will Arnett.  That’s all I need to know. 10/1
10:00-11:00 PM: Caprica (SyFy) – It was pretty boring in the early going but it got much better towards the end. 10/1

Saturday:
11:30 PM – 1:00 AM: Saturday Night Live (NBC). I hope they;ve hired all new writers or Jon Hamm hosts every weekend. 9/25

  1. ha you watch more shows than i do. but then i just have less time to devote to tv. broke and on the gind

  2. Still with 90210? Seriously? I guess I shouldn’t judge, considering I still watch ANTM.

I’m begrudingly keeping HIMYM, though, I refuse to invest in the full season if it’s going to be the crapfest last season was. I, too, am encouraged by what the writers have said about the upcoming season, but still.

Also thinking about adding Mike & Molly to the mix, along with Boardwalk Empire. All of my shows from last year — Glee, Modern Family, etc., are still in play. Glad to see Desperate is off your rotation.
