9:00 pm: Happy Endings (ABC; 10/23)
I think Happy Endings has taken over Modern Family‘s spot as ABC’s funniest show. The way I feel about this show now is how I used to feel about How I Met Your Mother in the good days (seasons 1-4)
9:00 pm New Girl (FOX; 10/25)
Zooey Deschanel is still the weakest link in this cast but she improved as the season went on. Well, she didn’t necessarily improve. She just meshed better with her castmates. She’s about to lose this show to Schmidt (Max Greenfield). I haven’t seen a secondary character hijack a show from it’s star like this since Urkel.
9:30 pm: Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 (ABC; 10/23)
I think I only watch this show because it’s different. I don’t know if it can sustain it’s premise for another season but I’m willing to find out.
9:30 pm: The Mindy Project (NBC; 10/25)
I’m avoiding watching the pilot on Hulu because I don’t want to be disappointed. I really want this show to be good and succeed. They got Chris Messina to abandon his career as “that guy” in indie movies. I don’t want it to be for nothing.
9:30 pm: The New Normal (NBC; 9/11)
This show I am completely expecting to be disappointed in. The commercials just look so…busy. I love Ellen Barkin but I think the “older character who is still racist/homophobic/sexist” is becoming a tired trope.
10:00 pm: Parenthood (NBC; 9/10)
I love this show but every year it survives cancellation, I’m surprised. Any show that can make me like Dax Shepard has to be doing something right.
10:00 pm: Sons of Anarchy (FX; 9/10)
I wrote this whole essay about the finales of Sons of Anarchy and Boardwalk Empire for Huffington Post that never got published. This gist of the piece was both shows had reached a point with certain characters where there was no way out but death. Boardwalk Empire show took the risky path while Sons of Anarchy show punked out. It’s still one of the better dramas on television but they just keep going out of their way to avoid killing (spoiler).
